Methods for Selecting Waterproof Busbar Trays and Installation Considerations

Waterproof busbar trunking Manufacturer: Methods for Selecting Busbar Trays.
Waterproof busbar trunking is a power transmission device that, like cables, offers advantages such as efficient power transmission, long service life, high safety performance, convenient power supply, easy installation, and compact installation space.
Busbars primarily use copper or aluminum bars as conductors, insulated by air or insulating materials. They are mainly used in critical power transmission substations—for connecting substation transformers, generators, and switchgear, or for transmitting high currents. Busbars can facilitate dry-type branching power distribution, allowing multiple power supply points to be set up along the line.

Currently, densely packed busbars and air-type busbars are widely used; the key difference between them lies in their insulation methods and materials.
When selecting waterproof busbar trunking systems, it is generally necessary to take into account the following aspects comprehensively. According to fire safety requirements, the insulation material should have excellent flame-retardant and heat-resistant properties, and should not release toxic gases at high temperatures. From a structural standpoint, the system should prevent the chimney effect. It is advisable to prioritize compact-type busbar trunking systems. When choosing air-insulated busbar trunking systems, fire-rated circuit breakers should be installed within each compartment of the trunking enclosure. In particularly critical locations, to ensure continued operation during emergency power failures caused by fires, fire-resistant busbar trunking systems are recommended.
Regarding the installation location, first consider the enclosure’s degree of protection; second, take into account how the building structure affects the busbar’s shape, the type of mounting brackets, and the span length. To enhance heat dissipation in dedicated indoor workplaces—such as high-capacity substations—busbars with an IP30 rating can be used. For general applications, such as electrical shafts on different floors and distribution rooms, to ensure safety, busbars with an IP40 rating or higher must be selected. In indoor areas that are humid or where splash-proof requirements exist, to guarantee normal operation even when exposed to splashing water, busbars with an IP54 rating or higher should be chosen. Alternatively, in outdoor environments with special requirements—for instance, where protection against water jets, wave resistance, and corrosion resistance are needed—resin insulation can be applied separately to the busbar. In large-span installations, busbars with reinforced enclosures should be selected. The rated current should be determined through a comprehensive evaluation of technical performance, heat dissipation efficiency, and cost. Currently, the market predominantly favors low-impedance, densely insulated busbars with magnesium-aluminum alloy housings, which offer excellent heat dissipation and low power consumption.
Waterproof busbar trunking manufacturer: The following points should be noted when installing busbar trunking.
First, during disassembly and assembly, use stiff paper or wooden boards as padding when lifting to prevent damage or deformation of the mother slot surface. Throughout the entire process, take precautions against moisture, rain, and the entry of chemicals.
Second, pay attention to loading and unloading procedures to avoid twisting, collision, or excessive pressure that could damage the busbar trunking system.
Installation: The installation of compact busbar trunking systems requires on-site measurements and surveys to ensure high precision in the length of the busbar trunking. The height of the plug-in switchgear housing for the busbar trunking is also determined according to the design. Furthermore, the installation orientation is designed based on the desired performance outcome. The entire mainline system is assembled by plugging together multi-stage busbar trunking units (identified by their respective factory serial numbers), with each pair of adjacent units securely inserted into one another.
When using, ensure that the busbar trunking system is installed in the correct sequence. The insulation resistance of the busbar trunking should be above 20 MΩ to guarantee that the busbar trunking is not affected by other circuits. Maintenance work can be carried out after shutting down the power supply to the busbar trunking. After three months of use, a power-off inspection is required to check whether the tightening bolts are securely fastened.
If you encounter any issues during the installation of the waterproof busbar trunking system, be sure to contact the manufacturer for consultation promptly. If necessary, ask the manufacturer to dispatch technical personnel to provide on-site installation guidance. Want to learn more?
