How to choose fire-resistant cables?

Fire-resistant cable At this stage, the fire-resistant cables widely used fall into two main categories: UL-series flame-retardant cables and flame-retardant low-smoke halogen-free cables. Among imported products, these primarily originate from the Americas and Europe. Since the fire-resistant cable standards in the Americas and Europe are incompatible with each other and reflect significantly different approaches to fire protection, both the client and the design institute find themselves in a passive position when selecting products. Each side has its own valid reasons, and ultimately, the choice often comes down to the actual financial situation.

Fire-resistant cables are widely used in everyday life and have gradually replaced conventional cables. Experiments have shown that when a fire-resistant cable sample is ignited, after the open flame is removed, the spread of the flame is confined within the specified limits, and any residual glow extinguishes itself within the prescribed time frame. In contrast, when a conventional cable sample is ignited and the flame is removed, the fire continues to burn unabated and cannot extinguish itself spontaneously. So why are fire-resistant cables superior to conventional cables?

  1. Typically, conventional cables can withstand humidity levels up to around 300℃. When burned, they produce smoke and easily cause poisoning, leading to immediate suffocation. In contrast, fire-resistant cables are made from special materials that do not contain halogen compounds and generally do not emit harmful gases.

  2. Wiring installation is an essential component of home renovation. Typically, cable lines have a short service life and poor performance, and during use, they are bound to encounter issues such as aging, short circuits, smoke generation, and even ignition. However, to create a healthy living environment for your family, you must be extremely careful when selecting cables—opt for sturdy, durable, and fire-resistant cables that are guaranteed in quality.

  Precautions for using fire-resistant cables:

  1. When purchasing products, everyone should check whether the manufacturer has the necessary documents, such as a production license and business qualification certificates.

  2. Check whether the manufacturer’s production line matches the recommended one and whether a strict management system is in place. Due to standardized management practices, product quality during manufacturing will also be assured.

  3. When receiving the goods, be sure to check whether there are any quality-related issues. To prevent frequent repair problems later on, it’s essential to thoroughly verify the product quality.
